Employment of Rural Dwellers: Measurement Difficulties

Abstract

The paper deals with measuring rural dwellers employment levels. Official statistics data is given and algorithms for its construction are discussed. At the same time detailed survey conducted in one raion of Leningrad region testify to incompleteness of the picture given by the official statistics. Real self-provision of rural dwellers is a complicated combination of various forms of employment going back to different modes of production.
