Concept of cultural landscape and practice of protection of ethnographical patrimony (by the example of Northern Russian territories)

Abstract

The concept of cultural landscape, accepted in Russian science, its development history and study approaches of different modern scientific schools are analyzed in this article. Questions of formation of ethnical and ecological territories as specially protected complexes of natural and cultural patrimony, connected with the residence here of different small ethnographical groups are examined by the example of Northern Russian territories. The existing Russian law system is yet not wide enough to embrace the necessary range of issues that would regulate the protection of ethnographical landscapes. But it is possible to conduct a range of programs to preserve this unique phenomenon of natural and cultural patrimony within the existing laws.
